Northern Lights Forecast: Aurora Expected To Be Visible Over North America Tonight

Aurora Forecast Model Predicts Location and Intensity

Stargazers in Seattle and Across the US Could Get a Spectacular View

The OVATION Aurora Forecast Model is predicting that the aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, will be visible over North America tonight and tomorrow night. The forecast shows the intensity and location of the aurora, and is based on data from the OVATION WEB satellite.

The aurora is best seen between midnight and 3 am when the night sky is darkest. The map shows the intensity and the location of the auroral oval for the time given in the right-hand corner of the page.

Seattle-area stargazers got a spectacular view of the aurora borealis Friday night as a strong solar storm hit the Earth. The aurora was visible across much of the United States, and was even seen as far south as Texas.

Auroras are caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with the Earth's magnetic field. The particles are drawn to the magnetic poles, where they collide with atoms and molecules in the atmosphere, causing them to glow.

The best time to spot the Northern Lights in Seattle is between 10 pm and 3 am when the sky is darkest. However, the aurora can be seen at any time of night, as long as the sky is clear and dark.

If you're hoping to see the aurora, be sure to find a spot with a clear view of the northern sky. You may also want to bring a camera to capture the amazing spectacle.
