History and Construction
Jan Breydelstadion is the iconic home stadium of Club Brugge, one of Belgium's most successful football clubs. Located in the vibrant city of Bruges, the stadium's construction began in 1973 and was completed in 1975. Initially known as Olympiastadion, it was later renamed in honor of Jan Breydel, a legendary Flemish leader who fought for Bruges in the 14th century.
Expansion and Renovations
Over the years, the stadium has undergone significant expansions and renovations to meet the growing demands of the club and its passionate fan base. In 1998, the stadium's capacity was increased to 29,062, making it one of the largest football venues in Belgium. In 2000, it was equipped with state-of-the-art floodlights, enabling the hosting of UEFA Champions League matches under the lights.
